Big Sur "Glamping" Getaway
A weekend for Two at the Big Sur Getaway, a Boutique Glamping For Real People, in the Heart of Big Sur (and as featured in "Departures" magazine). You don’t need a road trip to awaken to ocean air drifting through the windows of your tricked-out custom trailer. Big Sur resident Caroline Brandes has spent the past several years refurbishing and custom-fitting two vintage trailers on her 8.5-acre property: a 1974 Avian 28-footer and a 1965 Airstream 22-footer. Both are now furnished with retro-chic baths and kitchenettes, snug sleeping cabins and Bose sound systems; parked in private spots overlooking forest and distant sea, each has patio furniture and a fire pit for relaxing alfresco. The cliffside hiking trails, redwood glades and surf-tossed beaches of Andrew Molera State Park are right next door, via a private road.  bigsurgetaway.com.

$50 cleaning fee included. Available February 1 - March 15.
Note: Contact Caroline Brandes in November to secure the glamping dates!

Ms. Rochester's Kindergarten Mosaic Table
Every year Ms. Rochester's class is put to the task of making a mosaic table. You would think those little fingers would not be ready for the challenge. Little they may be, but 240 little fingers have been hard at work building a tiled table from scratch. First they decorated their circular tiles. Then they meticulously laid the tiles down to create a polka dotted pattern. This table embodies the spirit of all those little kids. No doubt it will become the heart of your garden. Whenever you place your hands on the circles, you will feel the magical fingers that made this art work come alive.

There is only one he can turn over the family business to...his son Michael. Meanwhile, Lissa Hines sit behind her desk, with the blinds drawn, picking play-dough out of her ring, thinking about where to put the food drive bins-in the entry hallway, or by the kindergarten entry. There is only one child she can turn over her position or power to...one child who will step into her shoes, and wear the ring. "I'm gonna make you an offer you can't refuse," Don Hines announced on the eve of the Hillcrest Benefit. Bid high, Ladies and Gentlemen, for a chance to let your child rule the school, as principal for the day. He or she will lead morning circle, make announcement on the intercom, and reign supreme behind Principal Hines' desk. Who will it be? Will it be your little one? Don't forget, take the cannoli...
