Ravenswood Pickberry 6 Bottle Vertical Tasting
Here is your chance to sample six different vintages of Ravenswood Pickberry (2000, 01, 02, 03, 05, 06).
Ravenswood makes a vineyard designated blend from the Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc grapes grown on the property. The blend varies slightly from year to year, based on the flavors and the harvest.
Pickberry Vineyard is located on the slopes of Sonoma Mountain on the western side of the Sonoma Valley. Pickberry Vineyard got its name many years ago by then two-year-old Kirsten Strotz, daughter of owners Cris and Lorna Strotz (and mother of Hillcrest students Paul and Matt Hosemann), due to the irresistible blackberry vines that grew on the property. Pickberry fruit (in this case grapes, as opposed to blackberries) has traditionally produced opulent, berry-saturated, Bordeaux-style wines.
2006 -- "Quite a noble, interesting wine that bears comparing with the best of Napa Valley. It's bone dry, with softly dusty tannins backed with a firm hit of clean acidity. The flavors are somewhat herbal, with a sage and tobacco edge to the blackberries, dark chocolate and graphite. Feels classy and important, but young. Better after 2012." 94 Points from Wine Enthusiast

Ravenswood
One magnum of 2006 Teldeschi Vineyard Zinfandel. www.ravenswoodwinery.com
"The mating of
Teldeschi fruit with the Ravenswood hand has yielded superb results
across the years, and 2006 is no exception. From its first nose of
ripe, concentrated blackberries tinged with sweet spices to the
background notes of soils, toast and toffee to its varietally compelling
flavors firmed by tough yet fruit-buffered tannins, this one never lets
up, but it does want time in the cellar to soften its age-demanding
astringency"

Silver Oak/Twomey
A three bottle wood box containing 750 ml bottles of the following: 2008 Silver Oak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, 2009 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and 2008 Twomey Merlot.
"Made with a drop of
Cabernet Franc, this Merlot is rich, smooth and bone dry. With modest
alcohol, it brims with flavors of black and red currant, licorice, anise
and white pepper, as well as a subtle touch of sweet, smoky new oak.
the grapes come from the cool Soda Canyon area of Napa Valley, at the
base of Atlas Peak."

"It's easy to see why
Silver Oak remains so popular with the restaurant crowd. It's made in a
more restrained style than many other Napa Cabs. There's plenty of berry
and currant fruit as well as oak, but it's accompanied by tobacco and
herbs that give the wine an earthiness. What the wine lacks in dazzle it
more than makes up for in elegance and subtlety.

2011 Blackbird Vineyards Arise
2011 Blackbird Vineyards Arise. Winemaker Notes: The 2011 Arise exudes perfumes of ripe cherry,
cracked black pepper and vanilla. Upon entry, the soft mouthfeel and
rich texture reveals flavors of currant, blackberry, and subtle black
olive, which unfold into a long and delectable finish. The
cooler-than-normal 2011 Napa Valley grape-growing season concluded in an
expedited harvest. The outcome was a vintage with flavors developed at
lower brix, resulting in truly elegant wines with European-style texture
and great complexity. - Winemaker, Aaron Pott
